Application Privacy Policy
This privacy policy describes how the Walkthrough desktop application (the “App”) — a screen recorder for macOS and Windows operated by Walkthrough (“we”, “us”, or “our”) — collects, uses, stores, and discloses information when you use it.
This policy is specific to the desktop application and its access to your Google account. It is separate from the Walkthrough website privacy policy, which covers the marketing site at https://walkthrough.cc.
1. Summary
Walkthrough is a desktop screen recorder. Your recordings are uploaded directly from your computer to your own Google Drive — they never touch our servers. The App accesses only the Google Drive files it creates, and only to provide the recording-storage feature you signed up for.
2. What Google user data we access
When you sign into Walkthrough with your Google account, we request the following OAuth scope:
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file— permission to view and manage Google Drive files and folders that you have opened or created with this App.
This scope is intentionally narrow. Walkthrough cannot read, modify, share, or delete any other files in your Google Drive — only the files Walkthrough itself creates. We do not request access to Gmail, Calendar, Contacts, Photos, or any other Google service.
3. How we use Google user data
Walkthrough’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
We use the data you authorize us to access only to:
- Create a folder in your Google Drive (named “WalkthroughRecordings” or similar) on first use.
- Upload screen recordings made with Walkthrough into that folder.
- Generate shareable preview links for those recordings using Google Drive’s native sharing.
- List, rename, and delete recordings created by Walkthrough at your request from within the App.
Consistent with the Limited Use requirements, Walkthrough does not:
- Use Google user data to train, fine-tune, or evaluate generalized AI or machine-learning models.
- Read, modify, or delete files outside the folder Walkthrough creates.
- Sell, rent, or transfer your Google user data to third parties for advertising or any other purpose.
- Allow employees, contractors, or anyone else to read the contents of your files, except in the limited cases the Limited Use Policy permits (security investigations or as required by law).
4. What we store on our servers
Your video recordings are never uploaded to our servers. They go directly from your computer to your Google Drive over an encrypted connection.
The only data we keep on our servers is:
- The email address you used to purchase a license, your license key, and your purchase record (held by our payment processor and reflected in our records for accounting and support).
- Anonymized application telemetry, only if you opt in (e.g. crash reports). This is off by default and can be changed at any time in the App’s preferences.
5. What we store locally on your device
- Your Google OAuth tokens, stored in your operating system’s secure credential store (Keychain on macOS, Credential Manager on Windows). Tokens are not transmitted to Walkthrough.
- Application preferences (hotkeys, recording quality, output folder, etc.).
- A local index of recordings created by the App so it can show a list without re-querying Google Drive every time.
6. How we share your data
We do not sell, rent, or share your Google user data with any third party. The only flow of Google user data is:
Walkthrough App → your Google Drive (your account)
We use the following third-party service providers to operate the App and our business:
- Google LLC — Google Drive storage and authentication (see Google’s Privacy Policy).
- Our payment processor — handles your purchase and stores your billing information. Disclosed in the website privacy policy.
We may disclose data if required to do so by law, valid legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users, ourselves, or others.
7. Data retention and deletion
You are in control of your data:
- To delete a recording: delete the file from your Google Drive. Walkthrough holds no backup.
- To revoke Walkthrough’s access to your Google account: visit your Google Account permissions page and remove Walkthrough. The App will lose access immediately.
- To delete local Walkthrough data: uninstall the App and delete the application support folder (
~/Library/Application Support/Walkthroughon macOS,%APPDATA%\Walkthroughon Windows). - To delete data we hold on our servers (license records, opted-in telemetry): email support@walkthrough.cc from the address you used at purchase.
8. Security
All communication between Walkthroughand Google APIs uses HTTPS/TLS. OAuth tokens are stored in your operating system’s secure credential store. We follow industry-standard practices for the small amount of license data we hold on our servers. No system is perfectly secure; if you believe an account or token has been compromised, email support@walkthrough.cc immediately.
9. International users
Walkthrough is available worldwide. If you access the App from outside the country where Walkthrough operates, your information may be transferred across borders. We rely on the data protection mechanisms recognised under applicable law, including (where relevant) the Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers out of the EEA and UK.
10. Your rights under GDPR / CCPA
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws like the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to access, correct, delete, or export the personal data we hold about you, and the right to object to certain processing. Because the App stores no recording data on our servers, the personal data we hold is limited to your purchase record and any opt-in telemetry. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@walkthrough.cc. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.
11. Children’s privacy
Walkthrough is not directed at children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@walkthrough.cc and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the App evolves. The “Last updated” date above reflects the current version. Material changes will be announced in the App and on https://walkthrough.cc.
